Marielle Heller & Bel Powley—The Diary of a Teenage Girl—8/3/2015

Marielle Heller made her screenwriting and directorial debuts with The Diary of a Teenage Girl, but she has been active for years as an actress of stage and screen. In the most relevant example, Heller adapted and starred in a 2010 off-Broadway stage production of Phoebe Gloeckner's The Diary of a Teenage Girl. Other stage credits include Berkeley Rep's world premiere of David Edgar's Continental Divide and stints as Ophelia in Hamlet, Cordelia in King Lear, and Hero in Much Ado About Nothing. Screen acting credits include A Walk Among the Tombstones, MacGruber, and the ABC sitcom Spin City. Actress Bel Powley previously appeared in the film Side by Side and has logged a number of television credits—including M.I.High, The Bill, Little Dorrit, and Murderland—before taking on the role of Minnie Goetze in The Diary of a Teenage Girl. I spoke to the duo on August 3, 2015 at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco, CA.
